Shoulder Instability & Labral Tears
A condition where the shoulder ball slips partly or fully out of its socket, often tied to a torn labrum, causing looseness, pain, and repeat dislocations.
About this condition
The labrum is a ring of cartilage that deepens the shoulder socket and helps keep the joint stable. When it tears, often from a dislocation or repeated strain, the shoulder can feel loose, catch, or slip out of place. This is called instability, and it tends to worsen with each episode.
Dr. Sonntag tailors treatment to how often the shoulder gives way and how much bone loss is present. Some patients strengthen the shoulder through physical therapy and avoid surgery. For recurrent dislocations or significant bone loss, he offers procedures that repair the labrum or rebuild the socket to restore stability.
